An Opportunity for Event Professionals to Rest, We Deserve It

To be asked to be a judge of the 2019 Canadian Event Industry Awards was such an honour, especially during such a time in the world as this.

This experience was so great for me. During a time when the events industry has been literally shut down by Covid 19, it was a great reminder about what is possible in the events industry.

I spent several evenings making my way through the entries, one by one; looking at photographs, watching videos and reading through their documentation. I remember looking through the images and thinking…and sometimes saying out loud – Yes! yes! yes! I love that! Wow that’s awesome! Ooooo interesting….!

Take this time to rest, we deserve it

I am thrilled to be a part of this industry because what we do is remarkable. It is stressful and difficult but so rewarding when it’s done right. My favorite moment at an event is when it is up and running full tilt and I get to stand back and just watch. I get to look at all that hard work paying off.

I would like to encourage my industry colleagues to stand back for a moment, during this time of quiet, and reflect on what we do and why we do it. We create moments that will forever impact a person’s life in ways we may never know. Whether it’s because we helped to create a million dollar fundraiser that made it possible for an organization to help a young woman walk again; or we created an inspirational moment that will forever change a person’s career; or we created a moment on the street of a small town that a teen will remember well into their adulthood as the first festival they attended alone without a parent chaperone; or, whether it was a celebration of a life well lived by someone who has now passed.

Take a moment, before the world gets crazy again and reflect on all the greatness we bring to the world and see this as an opportunity to rest because we deserve it.
